Columbia/NYSPI is a flagship academic psychiatry program embedded in one of the nation's top NIMH-funded research departments, with the New York State Psychiatric Institute providing over 25 dedicated research beds and imaging infrastructure to support residents pursuing scholarly work. The program's identity centers on physician-scientist development: a formal Research Track offers up to 40% protected time in PGY3 and 80% in PGY4, an InSPIRE onboarding conference for all incoming residents, individualized mentorship, and dedicated funding, with a stated pathway from residency directly into one of Columbia's nine NIH-funded T32 postdoctoral fellowships toward junior faculty positions.
