This four-year psychiatry residency is a community-facing clinical program embedded within the large academic Mount Sinai Health System, serving diverse patients across the Upper West Side, Morningside Heights, Harlem and the Bronx. Training emphasizes an integrated biopsychosocial model combining psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, with a dedicated VA Scholarly Track offering research and clinical exposure within the VA system alongside a General Residency Pathway. The program supports broad post-residency trajectories, with graduates pursuing fellowships in child and adolescent, consultation-liaison, public, and forensic psychiatry, as well as community, academic, and private practice settings. Distinctive features include health-system-wide elective access, a strong emphasis on the therapeutic alliance and social determinants of health, and residents described as valued colleagues rather than just trainees.
