UC Irvine/CHOC is a university-based pediatric program built around a mission to train pediatricians for the underserved communities of Los Angeles and Orange County, delivered across three distinct clinical sites (CHOC, UC Irvine Medical Center, Miller Children's & Women's Hospital) plus a network of community-based, Spanish/Vietnamese-serving continuity clinics. The curriculum is organized around individualized tracks (Critical Care, Primary Care, Subspecialty, Hospital Medicine, Research) and named longitudinal pathways (STAR for health-equity research, Leadership, Primary Care), reflecting a structure that accommodates both fellowship-bound and primary-care-bound trainees rather than pushing residents toward a single outcome.
