Monmouth Medical Center's Pediatrics Residency is a community-based, Rutgers-affiliated program at The Unterberg Children's Hospital in Long Branch, NJ, offering broad exposure across a Level III NICU, a 4-bed PICU, general pediatric floor, nursery, and a high-volume pediatric ER, alongside a three-year continuity clinic panel. The program is built almost entirely around clinical service and general pediatrics training rather than subspecialty research output, though it maintains structured scholarly activity through a monthly research meeting, journal club/debate series, and an internal Ellen Cosgrove Research Competition open to house-wide resident projects. Its curriculum includes a 6-rotation Individualized Learning Curriculum tailored to each resident's career goals, along with numerous in-house subspecialty electives (GI, pulmonology, endocrinology, hematology/oncology, cardiology, nephrology), suggesting flexibility for residents oriented toward either primary care or fellowship subspecialization. The current resident roster is composed entirely of IMGs, and program culture emphasizes tight-knit collegiality, wellness, and community/advocacy engagement over academic prestige or high-intensity research output.
