Nassau University Medical Center's Pediatrics program is a small, community-based, safety-net residency (six categorical spots per year) built around a county hospital serving Long Island's underserved population, with continuity clinic anchoring each resident's three-year longitudinal panel of primary care patients. Subspecialty exposure and inpatient acuity are supplemented through structured rotations at Cohen Children's Medical Center of Northwell Health and Good Samaritan University Hospital, broadening experience beyond what the home site alone provides, while attending supervision remains close on all inpatient services. The program explicitly frames itself around primary care competency and child advocacy woven into training, with research described as one thread among continuity care, ambulatory work, inpatient service and didactics rather than a driving institutional priority; graduates go on to community practice as well as subspecialty fellowships at academic centers.
