HCA Healthcare-TriStar Nashville-Centennial Medical Center Program

Program Identity & Fit

This is a relatively young (initial ACGME accreditation 2020), HCA Healthcare-affiliated internal medicine program at TriStar Centennial, a large community-based academic medical center in Nashville, with 30 categorical positions and 10 residents accepted annually. Clinical training is broad and traditional (inpatient wards, ICU, night float, subspecialty blocks) with continuity clinic at the on-campus Frist Clinic one week in five, and the program explicitly frames itself as preparation for subspecialty fellowship as well as independent practice. Research is emphasized structurally rather than assumed - residents receive an annual scholarly stipend, must complete a research project and a quality improvement project before graduation, and the program hosts an internal research week, backed by HCA's national GME research infrastructure and access to system-wide patient data. The program markets resident autonomy, faculty responsiveness, and a wellness-oriented culture (HCA's "Pathways to Flourishing" framework) as defining features of the training environment.
