Vanderbilt's Dermatology Residency is an academic, quaternary-care program built around a five-resident-per-year, ACGME-accredited structure with rotations spanning Vanderbilt University Hospital, Monroe Carell Children's Hospital, the Nashville VA, and Nashville General Hospital, giving trainees exposure to complex medical, pediatric, surgical, and safety-net dermatology within one contiguous campus. Dermatopathology and procedural dermatology are embedded directly within the department rather than outsourced, and the presence of an in-house Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship, along with participation in the ABD Investigative Training Track, signals a program built to feed both surgical subspecialization and physician-scientist pathways. Research infrastructure is substantial and multidisciplinary (translational skin imaging, bioinformatics/AI, cellular immunology, skin cancer epidemiology), with named labs (Ward, Tkaczyk, Wheless) offering cross-departmental collaboration rather than being a peripheral requirement.
