Ascension St. Vincent's anesthesia residency is a new, community-based, faith-affiliated program built around a private practice model, staffed almost entirely by Northside Anesthesia Services (roughly 96 full-time private-practice anesthesiologists) rather than an academic department with competing advanced practice providers. Training occurs at a Level I trauma, comprehensive stroke, burn, and transplant center, giving residents exposure to high-acuity general, obstetric, pediatric, cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and neurosurgical anesthesia within a small-cohort structure emphasizing early autonomy and one-on-one faculty exposure rather than a research infrastructure or named academic tracks. Career language centers explicitly on producing "amazing community based anesthesiologists," with faculty subspecialty exposure (chronic/regional pain, cardiac, pediatrics, high-risk OB, neuroanesthesia) supporting broad clinical competence rather than fellowship pipeline-building. The program values resident-driven schedule flexibility, consistent faculty familiarity, and fit with a private-practice, patient-care-first identity over scholarly output.
