LVHN's Transitional Year Residency is a community-academic hybrid program that serves as a preparatory launch year for residents heading into advanced specialties such as radiology, neurology, and PM&R, rather than an internal medicine pathway in its own right. Structured around a 13-block curriculum blending core inpatient medicine, ICU, emergency medicine and ambulatory blocks with up to 7.5 blocks of elective time, the program emphasizes flexibility to tailor the year toward each resident's ultimate specialty. A night-float call structure with capped 12-hour shifts and OSCE-based direct observation with standardized patients signals attention to intern wellness and structured feedback during the medical school-to-residency transition. The program functions as a stepping-stone year rather than a terminal training identity, with resident outcomes dominated by advanced specialty placements (largely radiology and neurology) and no independent research infrastructure specific to the TY curriculum.
