This is a university-affiliated transitional year program based at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, a community hospital setting within the IU School of Medicine GME network, serving primarily as a launching pad into advanced specialty residencies rather than an endpoint program itself. Residents are integrated into IU Health Ball Memorial care teams alongside categorical counterparts, receiving progressive autonomy while maintaining close ties to the affiliated Internal Medicine residency. The program explicitly funnels graduates into competitive specialties requiring a preliminary or transitional base year — anesthesiology, dermatology, radiology, radiation oncology, and PM&R — and its schedule is structured to allow electives supporting those specific advanced-program goals.
