Program Identity & Fit

Riverside Community Hospital's Transitional Year program is a large (20-position), community-based, tertiary-referral training year embedded in a 478-bed Level I trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, and busiest STEMI receiving center in Riverside County, offering high-volume, high-acuity exposure in a fast-growing but underserved Inland Empire population. The curriculum is deliberately flexible, built around five elective blocks plus required EM, hospitalist, ambulatory, ICU, and peds exposure, positioning it explicitly as a launching pad rather than a terminal specialty year, with residents training alongside HCA's Anesthesia, EM, Family Medicine, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Radiology programs and UC Riverside School of Medicine faculty and students.
