Program Identity & Fit

This is a community-based, hospital-affiliated transitional year with 11 PGY-1 positions distributed across two Corewell Health sites, structured entirely as a preparatory feeder year for designated advanced specialty programs rather than a standalone training identity. The curriculum is built around core ACGME-mandated rotations (internal medicine, ICU, CCU, emergency medicine, general surgery, ambulatory) plus four elective months, giving residents flexibility to tailor preparation toward their matched advanced specialty. Every current resident is DO or MD matched into radiology (Dearborn), dermatology (Trenton/Farmington Hills), or ophthalmology (Taylor), confirming the program functions as a dedicated pipeline for procedural and image-based specialties rather than a generalist internship. There is no independent research infrastructure or expectation tied to the TY itself; the program's value lies in efficiently preparing residents with a broad clinical foundation before they transition into their advanced categorical training.
