Program Identity & Fit

This is a young (matriculated first class 2019), community-based, HCA Healthcare-affiliated general surgery program in Kingwood, Texas, built around a University of Houston College of Medicine partnership that provides academic infrastructure without dictating an academic-track identity. Residents train primarily at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, with rotations extending to North Cypress Medical Center and a San Antonio hepatobiliary/transplant site, offering broad general, oncologic, colorectal, cardiothoracic, vascular, breast, and endoscopic exposure while the home institution builds toward trauma verification. Research is explicitly optional rather than required, supported through HCA's national data infrastructure and coordinators, and the program frames its graduate outcomes as bifurcated - some residents pursue fellowship and academic surgery, others community/private practice.
