Program Identity & Fit

OHSU's Radiation Oncology Residency is a four-year, academically-oriented university program embedded within the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute and a broader research-intensive health sciences campus, treating patients across Kohler Pavilion, the Portland VA, and Beaverton clinics. The program builds in up to 12 months of dedicated research or elective time starting PGY-3, with residents pursuing health services, outcomes, translational, and basic science projects alongside faculty mentors, reflecting a structure designed to produce clinicians who can also function as researchers, educators, and advocates. Current resident research spans CNS radiation outcomes, patient safety and early-detection strategies, brachytherapy/MRI-guided GU-GYN techniques, and proton therapy, indicating faculty mentorship geared toward translational and clinical-outcomes scholarship rather than pure bench science.
