Sutter Health Sacramento Region psychiatry residency is a four-year ACGME-accredited programme embedded in a large integrated non-profit health system rather than a university department, launched specifically to train psychiatrists locally and expand access to mental health care across Northern California. Clinical training deliberately spans the full range of settings - inpatient, outpatient, emergency, consult-liaison, community and integrated care - giving breadth across the lifespan rather than concentration in a single tertiary site. The curriculum pairs strong psychotherapy training and dedicated psychotherapy supervision with protected didactic time, interactive case conferences and Grand Rounds, and the programme foregrounds cultural humility, health equity and trauma-informed care as stated educational commitments. Research, scholarly activity and advocacy are described as available opportunities rather than requirements, and the programme places explicit emphasis on mentorship and physician wellness.
