Brain Health USA - Van Nuys is a newly launched (2025 inaugural class), community-based, safety-net-oriented psychiatry residency built around a large outpatient behavioral health network rather than a traditional academic medical center. Clinical training spans a safety-net inpatient hospital (Pacifica Hospital of the Valley), longitudinal outpatient care at Brain Health's own clinics, community psychiatry in underserved Gardena, and field-based outreach through a Los Angeles County DMH partnership, reflecting an explicit health-equity and access-to-care mission. Every resident is paired 1:1 with a faculty research mentor and completes a scholarly project focused on themes like health equity, crisis intervention, cultural psychiatry, and quality improvement, though the program's structure (heavy PGY-3 outpatient year, administrative psychiatry block, broad subspecialty exposure) points toward producing community-facing general psychiatrists rather than subspecialist-track physicians.
