Samaritan's Corvallis psychiatry program is a community-based training model built on partnerships with county mental health systems, state hospital, forensic and residential addiction services rather than a single academic medical center, producing graduates oriented toward direct community practice rather than subspecialty fellowship. The four-year curriculum front-loads medical/neurology rotations before layering child, forensic, consult-liaison, geriatric, and addiction psychiatry experiences, with a longitudinal outpatient continuity clinic and a full year of psychotherapy training (psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, group) alongside MAT/addiction-focused psychopharmacology instruction. Research appears as a didactic topic (research design, PRITE-aligned coaching) rather than a mandated scholarly track, and an in-house ACGME child and adolescent fellowship allows continuation without relocating. The program explicitly values team-based functioning, approachability, transparency, and clinician well-being, and situates its identity within Oregon's public mental health and rural/community county systems (Linn, Benton counties, Trillium, Serenity Lane).
