LSU Pediatrics is a university-affiliated program based almost entirely (90% of rotations) at Manning Family Children's in New Orleans, serving as a major referral and safety-net site for children across Louisiana and the Gulf South. The program's explicit mission centers on reducing healthcare disparities and increasing the pediatrician workforce in Louisiana and the broader Gulf South region, reflecting a strong regional-service and access-to-care identity. Training is individualized through seven Individualized Educational Units and named career tracks (Primary Care, Hospitalist, Emergency Medicine, PICU, NICU, subspecialty, undecided), and alumni outcomes show a genuine split between community/rural general pediatrics and competitive subspecialty fellowships (GI, neonatology, heme-onc, craniofacial). Research is structured but supportive rather than mandatory-a dedicated research rotation and regional presentation venues exist to prepare residents for fellowship expectations, not to drive an investigator-track identity.
