Program Identity & Fit

The BCRP Pediatrics/Medical Genetics combined pathway is a four-year track embedded within the Boston Combined Residency Program, a merger of Boston Children's Hospital (quaternary academic pediatric referral center) and Boston Medical Center (urban safety-net hospital), giving trainees both subspecialty-dense tertiary genetics exposure and a diverse public-hospital population. The program is one of roughly two dozen nationally offering integrated pediatrics-medical genetics training, capping at two positions per year, and is administratively distinct within BCRP's application process, requiring a separate interview day with clinical genetics faculty. Research is deeply embedded in program identity, evidenced by BCH's genomics and hematology/oncology discoveries (BCL11A gene therapy, Lasker and Alpert Prize-winning faculty) and leadership by Chief of Pediatrics Wendy Chung, a nationally recognized human geneticist; residents in this track are expected to build toward physician-scientist or academic subspecialty careers in genetics/genomics.
