WellSpan York Hospital's Orthopedic Surgery Residency is a community-based, osteopathic-recognized ACGME program built around a tight-knit, family-style training culture with three PGY-1 positions per year and fellowship-trained faculty across major subspecialties. The curriculum blends heavy hands-on and cadaveric training with a structured OMT/OPP curriculum, dedicated didactic time, and an in-house clinical research associate, reflecting a strong osteopathic identity alongside allopathic ACGME standards. Nearly every graduate has pursued fellowship training (trauma, adult reconstruction, sports medicine, spine, foot and ankle, hand, oncology), and the program's own stated goal is to prepare residents to become well-trained general orthopaedists or secure fellowships of their choosing, with strong OITE performance (90th percentile in 2023) signaling a rigorous academic culture despite its community hospital base. The program appears to value close mentorship, resident camaraderie, active involvement in national osteopathic and allopathic ortho societies, and scholarly output required through required annual papers/posters.
