Program Identity & Fit

Sisters of Charity Hospital's OB/GYN program is a faith-based, Catholic Health community hospital residency academically affiliated with the University at Buffalo's Jacobs School of Medicine, combining a mission-driven, values-centered training environment with structured exposure to high-acuity obstetrics, gynecologic oncology, and minimally invasive/robotic surgery. Residents manage a busy Labor and Delivery service (~3,200 deliveries/year) with high-risk maternal-fetal medicine, rotate through Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for gynecologic oncology, gain dedicated REI experience with Buffalo IVF, and complete a structured robotic surgery curriculum (ATLAS lab, FLS certification, da Vinci systems) culminating in credentialing for robotic-assisted procedures. A dedicated Research/QPS module supports resident scholarship, reflected in a substantial and active publication output emphasizing case reports, surgical technique, and quality/patient-safety work rather than bench science. The program explicitly integrates Catholic Health's mission and values into training, positioning graduates as competent general Obstetrician-Gynecologists prepared either for community practice or fellowship, with an environment welcoming residents who hold traditional religious or moral convictions regarding women's health care.
