Program Identity & Fit

This is a newly established, community-based OB/GYN residency at HCA Healthcare's Summerville Hospital, taking three residents per year and structured to prepare graduates for either general clinical practice or fellowship. Training spans a broad subspecialty exposure - maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology/infertility, urogynecology, and gynecologic oncology - delivered across multiple community sites (Summerville Hospital, Fetter Healthcare Network, Coastal Fertility Specialists, Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group, HCA Florida Institute for Gynecologic Oncology-South) rather than a single academic tertiary center. Research is supported through HCA's national GME infrastructure (scholarly commons, research coordinators, access to a 30-million-encounter patient dataset) but is not positioned as central to program identity; the curriculum notably does not provide abortion training except an elective family-planning block with limited access in later years. As a young program still building its institutional identity and regional research partnerships, it appears to value residents who are adaptable, comfortable in a community-practice, patient-care-first environment, and open to a broad general OB/GYN scope with subspecialty rotation exposure rather than a heavily academic research trajectory.
