Program Identity & Fit

This is the long-standing, safety-net-anchored neurology residency co-sponsored by Keck School of Medicine and Los Angeles General Medical Center (LA General), distinct from USC's newer Keck/Arcadia-based track. Training spans LA General's Level 1 trauma, indigent, safety-net population alongside Keck Hospital's tertiary/quaternary vascular and critical care referrals, giving residents exposure to an unusually broad socioeconomic and clinical spectrum. The department supports a dense fellowship ecosystem (Neurocritical Care, MS/Neuroimmunology, Movement Disorders, Headache, Intraoperative Monitoring, Vascular, Epilepsy) with named division leaders serving as direct mentors, and graduates are explicitly positioned for academic medicine, community practice, or subspecialty fellowship rather than a single funneled outcome. The program values residents who can function across resource-limited and resource-intensive settings and who engage with USC's substantial translational and clinical research infrastructure (NIH-ranked neuroscience, SC-CTSI).
