The University of Kansas Neurology Residency is a university-based academic program with over 50 faculty spanning all neurology subspecialties and a strong translational research infrastructure, including one of North America's largest neuromuscular clinical trials units and an NIH-designated Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. Clinical training draws on a tertiary/quaternary academic health system with the state's only Level 4 Epilepsy Center, and active trial portfolios in stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, and neuromuscular disease that residents can engage with alongside clinician-scientist faculty. The program explicitly supports both academic and private practice trajectories, but its research capacity (regional referral base for complex neuromuscular and epilepsy cases, active NIH-funded centers, extensive fellow-mentored publication record) signals particular strength for residents pursuing subspecialty fellowship and academic careers. Eight in-house fellowship pathways (epilepsy, neuromuscular, vascular, neurocritical care, movement disorders, clinical neurophysiology, cognitive/behavioral neurology, sleep) indicate a program built around producing subspecialists rather than solely community generalists.
