Program Identity & Fit

This is a four-year categorical neurology program under the University of Central Florida College of Medicine/HCA Healthcare GME Consortium, based at HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, a comprehensive stroke center, Level II trauma center, and tertiary care facility in Kissimmee, FL, with additional rotations at the Orlando VA Healthcare System and Nemours Children's Hospital. The clinical emphasis is heavily neurovascular, built around a 24/7 multidisciplinary stroke team, neurovascular ICU, and interventional neuroradiology suite, with residents assuming progressive responsibility on stroke and general neurology consultation services starting PGY2. Research is structurally supported (dedicated course including biostatistics, journal club, access to HCA's system-wide patient-encounter data and Scholarly Commons/HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine) but appears expected rather than central to program identity. The program explicitly frames its curriculum, including broad subspecialty electives (neuro-critical care, epilepsy, neuroimmunology, interventional neurology), as preparing residents for either fellowship or direct entry into clinical practice, and pairs this with an institutional wellness framework (autonomy, belonging, competence) emphasizing resident support within a large multi-site community/academic hybrid system.
