Trinity Health Grand Rapids is a Catholic, mission-driven, MSU-affiliated community-academic neurology program anchored at Hauenstein Neurosciences, the largest and first comprehensive neuroscience center in West Michigan, with training extended across Muskegon, Grand Haven, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, University of Michigan Health-West, and Corewell facilities. The clinical environment is high-acuity and subspecialty-rich (Comprehensive Stroke Center, dedicated EMU, neurocritical care, neuro-interventional services) yet the program's explicit identity is one of warmth, collegiality, and humanism, reinforced by a distinctive Humanism and Resiliency curriculum covering advocacy, wellness, EDI, and financial literacy. Research is structured and expected rather than optional - a mandatory three-year scholarly project paired with faculty mentorship, an on-site IRB, biostatistics support, and status as the main West Michigan NIH StrokeNet site - but the program frames itself primarily as producing strong general neurologists with procedural competency (Botox, nerve blocks, LPs) who can pursue either community practice or fellowship. Graduate outcomes (100% board pass, fellowship placements) and elective breadth (community neurology, sports neurology, palliative care, neuro-rehab) suggest the program values well-rounded clinical versatility and cultural fit over singular research or subspecialty ambition.
