Jefferson's four-year categorical neurology program is a university-based, tertiary-referral training environment anchored at TJUH and Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, with subspecialty depth spanning stroke, epilepsy (including one of the largest epilepsy surgery centers in the country), headache, neuroimmunology, neuro-oncology, and neuromuscular disease, plus dedicated child neurology rotations at Nemours. Nearly every graduate over recent classes has pursued subspecialty fellowship training, overwhelmingly in-house (epilepsy, movement, vascular, neurocritical care, headache, neuromuscular), indicating a program built around a pipeline into fellowship rather than general neurology practice. Every resident completes a mentored capstone scholarly project (clinical, translational, basic science, quality/safety, or medical education) and can plug into ongoing departmental research across cerebrovascular, epilepsy, headache, neurogenetics, neuroimmunology, dementia, and peripheral nerve disease, while a parallel emphasis on formal teaching training (Grand Rounds, medical teaching elective, peer-led didactics) signals the program values residents who will also grow as educators. Progressive autonomy is built structurally into nightfloat and consult rotations, and continuity clinic threads across PGY2-4 to anchor longitudinal outpatient skill development.
