CAMC Neurology is a new, community-based academic program (first graduating class in 2026) situated within a large nonprofit regional referral system in Charleston, WV that serves as the region's tertiary/quaternary hub, including a Comprehensive Stroke Center, Level I Trauma Center, and a 17-campus telestroke network that generates substantial vascular neurology volume. Training is structured around outpatient subspecialty immersion (a dedicated month per subspecialty with one attending) alongside inpatient consultation and night float, supported by a large simulation and education center. Research is present and encouraged rather than central: residents must submit one abstract yearly, faculty mentoring and elective research months exist, and the institution has an established investigator-driven and industry research infrastructure, but the program's stated aim is producing independent, broadly competent general neurologists rather than physician-scientists. The program emphasizes collegiality, humanistic/holistic care, leadership development and well-being as explicit cultural values, fitting a small, closely-knit resident community in an early stage of establishing its identity and outcomes.
