Program Identity & Fit

This is a mission-driven, safety-net primary care track based at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County in Central Brooklyn, explicitly organized around training physicians to practice and lead primary care for underserved urban populations and reduce health disparities. The curriculum uses a 4X+2Y ambulatory-heavy structure with protected half-day learning blocks, longitudinal continuity clinic, embedded QI/scholarly activity, and leadership/career development seminars, supplemented by inpatient rotations at Kings County, University Hospital at Downstate, the Brooklyn VA, and Memorial Sloan Kettering. Scholarly output is consistently applied and population-health focused - hypertension control, diabetes management, vaccine uptake, cancer screening - built through resident-led QI projects presented regularly at SGIM rather than bench or translational research. The program's identity centers on generalist primary care leadership, health equity, and community-based systems improvement rather than subspecialty fellowship preparation.
