Program Identity & Fit

This is a new (2022-founded), community-based internal medicine program at a 362-bed Prime Healthcare acute-care hospital in Inglewood, CA, academically affiliated with CUSM, oriented explicitly toward addressing physician shortage and healthcare disparities in an underserved, diverse South Bay LA population. The program's stated mission centers on producing competent hospitalists and primary care physicians while remaining open to fellowship pathways, with continuity clinics embedded in the professional building and Westchester Medical Plaza, quality-improvement and community-relevant scholarly activity, and explicit intent to recruit and retain residents committed to the local region. Research is present as a supported, QI-oriented activity rather than a driving identity, and resident narratives consistently emphasize community commitment, diverse pathology exposure, and hands-on autonomy rather than tertiary/quaternary subspecialty infrastructure. The program values diversity of background, demonstrated commitment to underserved care, and flexibility/open-mindedness about career direction, reflected in a resident body pursuing hospitalist practice, primary care, and fellowship in fairly even measure.
