Program Identity & Fit

UCHealth Parkview is a small, community-based, osteopathically-recognized internal medicine program in Pueblo, Colorado, established in 2012 with the explicit mission of producing well-rounded general internists to serve Southeastern Colorado. The training model centers on progressive resident autonomy, a real-world continuity clinic where residents manage a personal panel of roughly 100 patients including coding and billing exposure, and hands-on procedural training (paracentesis, LP, arthrocentesis, central lines, thoracentesis, POCUS) through dedicated skills days and ICU rotations. Rather than being research-driven, the program treats scholarly activity as a structured requirement (QI project plus case/research presentation) with support for local and regional presentation rather than a pipeline toward academic subspecialty fellowship. Career orientation is built around named Hospitalist and Primary Care tracks, reflecting a program that values generalist clinical competence, practical outpatient practice-management skills, and long-term community/hospitalist retention, evidenced by numerous faculty who are its own graduates.
