This is a newly launched, university-affiliated academic internal medicine program anchored by Keck Medical Center of USC, a quaternary academic hospital, and extended across USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, USC Arcadia Hospital, and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, giving residents a deliberate mix of quaternary referral, community, and cancer-center exposure rather than a single-institution identity. The 3+1 block structure, extensive elective time, and a 16-subspecialty fellowship infrastructure across the Department of Medicine signal a program built to funnel residents toward subspecialty fellowship training, while still offering QI, case-report, and journal-club level scholarly output for those less research-intensive. Research is present and facilitated through faculty mentorship and access to Keck's large basic/translational science enterprise, but the described resident scholarly activity (case reports, QI projects, conference presentations) is more in line with encouraged engagement than an expectation of hypothesis-driven investigation.
