Crestwood Medical Center's Internal Medicine program is a new, community-based residency at a 180-bed acute care hospital in Huntsville, Alabama, now accepting its third class of 12 residents per year (36 at full complement). The training environment centers on a single community hospital with an on-site continuity clinic, emphasizing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient internal medicine rather than tertiary subspecialty exposure, and residents work alongside osteopathic medical students from ACOM, VCOM, and LMU-DCOM. The program frames itself around producing well-rounded internists prepared for either subspecialty fellowship or primary care/hospital medicine practice, with quality-improvement and patient-safety research offered as a foundational (not central) academic component. As a young program still building its identity and outcomes track record, it appears to value adaptability, community commitment, and willingness to help shape the program alongside energetic but still-developing leadership.
