Program Identity & Fit

This is a community hospital-based family medicine residency (Chestnut Hill Hospital, a 148-bed tertiary-capable teaching hospital) paired with an urban, underserved-focused mission delivered through continuity clinics in Manayunk and Wyncote and pediatric training at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. The program is built around longitudinal tracks in geriatrics, sports medicine (linked to an in-house fellowship), addiction medicine/MAT, and community medicine, with residents required to design and present their own community health intervention. Scholarly activity (QI project plus a scholarly product) is expected of every resident but is structured as a requirement layered onto a primarily clinical, community-outreach identity rather than a research-driven one. Graduates go on to primary care practice or fellowships in sports medicine, geriatrics, palliative care, and women's health, and the program explicitly values residents who are motivated by continuity care, team-based culture, and service to health-disparate urban populations.
