Program Identity & Fit

This is a university-affiliated, integrated categorical anesthesiology program based at UF Health Jacksonville, a regional trauma and tertiary referral center serving Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, with additional experience at UF Health North, the Proton Therapy Institute, Wolfson Children's Hospital, and Mayo Jacksonville for transplant/neuroanesthesia. The curriculum embeds internship rotations across three years within the anesthesiology department itself, providing early OR exposure (starting PGY-1 February) alongside heavy subspecialty procedural volume in OB, pediatric, cardiac, regional/ultrasound blocks, and complex airway management via its oral-maxillofacial referral service. Research is supported through departmental infrastructure, a Dean's Research Grant, and an annual Research Day, but is scholarly-activity-oriented (QI, case reports, presentations) rather than a defining identity, fitting a program whose stated priorities are clinical competence, board-pass outcomes, and compassionate care for an underserved, diverse patient base. The small class size (16 residents), protected weekly academic day, simulation-based OSCE mock boards, and a named regional anesthesia/acute pain fellowship signal a program built for structured, hands-on clinical training with fellowship-track flexibility.
