Program Identity & Fit

Ochsner is a large private academic medical center in New Orleans and the oldest continuously accredited anesthesiology program in Louisiana, combining high-volume tertiary/quaternary clinical exposure (including liver transplant and a high-risk obstetric center of excellence with 3,500+ deliveries/year) with a structured four-year longitudinal research curriculum culminating in presentation at local, regional, or national meetings. The program houses five ACGME-accredited fellowships (adult cardiothoracic, obstetric, regional/acute pain, pain medicine), and alumni outcomes split heavily toward subspecialty fellowship training (cardiothoracic, OB, regional, pediatric, pain, critical care) alongside a meaningful cohort entering community and private practice directly. Medical student teaching is treated as a core resident responsibility, and the program draws trainees from a wide range of US MD, DO, and international medical schools, reflecting a broad, procedurally rich training identity rather than a narrow niche focus.
