Program Identity & Fit

This is a community-based, HCA Healthcare-affiliated Transitional Year program housed within MountainView Hospital and the Sunrise Health GME Consortium, functioning as a preliminary/launching year built entirely on rotations through the sponsoring Internal Medicine and General Surgery programs rather than an independently structured curriculum. The year is organized around 28 weeks of Fundamental Clinical Skills in medicine and surgery, a month each of emergency medicine and ambulatory care, and 8 weeks of electives spanning radiology, anesthesiology, PM&R, dermatology, neurology and ophthalmology, explicitly framed to be shaped around each resident's onward specialty goals. As a transitional year, its core function is preparing residents for advanced-track categorical positions elsewhere, so it emphasizes flexibility and broad clinical exposure over independent identity, research production, or a defined patient population of its own. Its value proposition centers on individualized rotation planning and integration with HCA's larger GME wellness and resource infrastructure rather than any procedural volume or research distinction of its own.
