Program Identity & Fit

This is a community-based, HCA Healthcare-affiliated Transitional Year program built to bridge residents into advanced categorical training (or government service commitments) rather than to stand alone as a career destination. The one-year curriculum blends inpatient medicine, critical care, surgery, emergency medicine, ambulatory clinic and psychiatry with 12 weeks of subspecialty electives (cardiology, GI, pulmonary, neurology, PM&R, wound care, and more), reflecting the breadth expected of a launch year rather than depth in any one field. Scholarly activity is structurally embedded rather than optional: residents are expected to complete at least one case report and one quality-improvement project, supported by a dedicated GME Research Department and access to HCA's large multi-site patient-data infrastructure. The program frames itself around developing "the next generation of physicians and physician leaders," with semi-annual director meetings tracking procedures, conference attendance and professional development.
