Program Identity & Fit

This is a long-standing (since 1984) transitional year program jointly sponsored by the internal medicine and emergency medicine departments at Corewell Health – Grand Rapids, functioning primarily as a bridge year for applicants advancing into radiology, anesthesiology, PM&R, radiation oncology, and neurology. Three of the nine annual positions are reserved for incoming Corewell Health/MSU College of Human Medicine Diagnostic Radiology categorical residents, reflecting the program's role as a feeder pipeline within its own institution. The curriculum offers track-based elective structuring (Anesthesiology, General, Neurology, Radiology-General, Radiology-Corewell) rather than a single generic rotation schedule, and residents integrate directly alongside categorical IM, EM, surgery, OB/GYN, and pediatrics residents rather than training in an isolated TY cohort. Research is structured but supportive rather than central: residents work with a dedicated TY research director and institutional scholarly-activity team, and are expected to present at an annual Research Day, indicating research is a required deliverable rather than optional enrichment.
