HCA Florida Aventura Hospital's Diagnostic Radiology Residency is a community-based, HCA Healthcare-affiliated program (launched 2017) built around high clinical volume—over 500,000 annual radiologic exams and 7,000 interventional procedures across four contributing hospitals (Aventura, Kendall Regional, Westside, plus Nicklaus Children's Hospital for pediatric imaging). Training is structured as a categorical four-year track with an integrated transitional year, rotating residents across multiple sites (roughly 70% Aventura, 30% Kendall, plus Westside) to maximize case diversity and private-practice exposure, supported by dedicated PACS-equipped reading rooms and a board-focused didactic curriculum including AIRP attendance and biweekly physics instruction. Research, teaching, and quality-improvement work are mandatory (annual scholarly activity, QI project, journal submission) but framed as supportive of clinical excellence rather than an academic identity in themselves, and the program has an ESIR pathway (four spots/year) for residents pursuing interventional radiology. The program emphasizes producing "dependable, reliable, trustworthy" clinical radiologists prepared for private practice or subspecialty fellowship, within a socioeconomically and culturally diverse patient base.
