Creighton University School of Medicine-Phoenix's Diagnostic Radiology residency is a hybrid academic-community program built on dual affiliations with Creighton University and the University of Arizona, training eight residents per year across two primary sites, St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center and Valleywise Health, both busy Level I trauma centers. Residents gain additional subspecialty exposure through rotations at Barrow Neurological Institute, Norton Thoracic Institute, Phoenix Children's Hospital, and the Phoenix VA, giving the program unusual breadth in neuro, thoracic, hepatobiliary, pediatric, and VA imaging within a single track. The program offers an ESIR pathway with two designated positions for matched residents pursuing interventional radiology, and emphasizes scholarly activity and quality improvement participation as a foundation for lifelong research engagement rather than a mandate for bench research. Faculty retention of former residents into teaching roles signals a program that values continuity, mentorship, and graduates who go on to compete successfully for subspecialty fellowships in academic and private-practice settings alike.
