This is an unopposed, community-based, state-hospital psychiatry program anchored at Griffin Memorial Hospital, Oklahoma's largest inpatient psychiatric facility, serving a predominantly indigent, high-acuity, complex-pathology population as part of the state's behavioral health safety net. The curriculum emphasizes early and sustained psychodynamic psychotherapy training beginning PGY-2, robust child/adolescent exposure from intern year (Children's Recovery Center, Child and Family Services), a structured forensic rotation spanning inpatient, jail, and court settings with later telemedicine-based forensic work, and a distinctive multi-site telepsychiatry continuity experience for PGY-3s. Research is not a structural emphasis; the program instead foregrounds clinical breadth, autonomy, and close faculty supervision within a small, unopposed resident cohort. The program values residents who thrive in a high-volume, high-acuity public-sector setting and who want deep, hands-on exposure to severe and persistent mental illness, forensic psychiatry, and psychotherapy rather than a research-driven or subspecialty-lab-oriented experience.
