Mary Washington Healthcare's psychiatry program is a small (6-6-6-6), new community-hospital-based residency built around Snowden at Fredericksburg, a dedicated behavioral health hospital offering the full continuum of inpatient, PHP, IOP, and outpatient care for adolescents and adults. The curriculum is notably psychotherapy-forward, with ten months of adult outpatient psychiatry in PGY-3 alone, and includes structured addiction psychiatry exposure both locally and at the Psychiatric Institute of Washington, plus standard child/adolescent, geriatric, C-L, and emergency psychiatry rotations. Research is not emphasized in the program's own description of itself, which instead foregrounds longitudinal mentorship, resident wellness, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a "close-knit" personalized environment where faculty know residents individually.
