Program Identity & Fit

This is an ACGME-accredited two-year General Preventive Medicine/Public Health fellowship (with a one-year fast track for board-eligible primary care physicians who have completed half their MPH requirements) that pairs a fully tuition-supported Master's degree at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health with clinical and population-health rotations across LA County Department of Public Health, the Greater LA VA, MLK Jr. Ambulatory Care Center, Venice Family Clinic, and Rancho Los Amigos. The training model emphasizes population-level intervention design, health systems and policy work, and applied field experience over inpatient clinical volume, with fellows completing a thesis/scholarly project and rotating through occupational health, environmental health, addiction medicine, and communicable disease control. Scholarly activities center on real-world public health system problems (social determinants screening tools, HIV screening access, lifestyle medicine group visits), reflecting a program identity oriented toward training population-health leaders and public agency/health-system physicians rather than subspecialty clinicians. The program values applicants who can integrate clinical training with policy, systems, and community-level thinking, and who are prepared to co-enroll in a public health graduate program.
