Program Identity & Fit

This is a large, research-intensive academic pediatrics program anchored by St. Louis Children's Hospital, a quaternary-care, Level 1 trauma, Level 4 NICU (140-bed, ECMO-capable) and 40-bed PICU environment, in partnership with Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The department is a genuine research powerhouse ($65M FY25 funding, 80+ PIs, 700+ 2024 publications, dedicated centers spanning immunology, pulmonology, cancer, genetics and rare disease) and offers structured pathways (Advocacy, Global Health, Integrated Research, Teaching Physician) plus combined/physician-scientist tracks (PePSTP, Pediatric/Medical Genetics) for residents pursuing academic or subspecialty careers. Curriculum balances inpatient/ambulatory blocks with substantial elective time (up to 20-24 weeks in PGY-3) allowing individualized tailoring toward primary care, subspecialty, or acute care trajectories, while research participation, though not mandated, is actively supported with conference travel and abstract mentorship.
