Program Identity & Fit

USA Health Pediatrics is a medium-sized, university-affiliated academic program built around a single freestanding children's and women's hospital that serves as the region's tertiary referral center, pulling pediatric patients from up to 100 miles away and running the area's only Level III NICU and a Level III pediatric ED. With no in-house pediatric fellowships, residents work directly under attending physicians with progressive autonomy rather than being layered under fellows, and the program explicitly frames itself around close faculty-resident relationships in a close-knit, 12-categorical-per-year cohort (plus 2-3 Med-Peds). Scholarship is structured but not the program's central identity—residents complete a project and present at an annual Research Day, but the emphasis throughout the curriculum is on advocacy, community engagement (Special Olympics, school-based initiatives, AAP Legislative Day), simulation-based procedural training, and continuity ambulatory care.
