This is a university-affiliated, tertiary children's hospital program (Prisma Health/USC SOM Greenville) that pairs high-acuity inpatient exposure (80-bed NICU, 18-bed PICU, Level II pediatric trauma center) with a large, high-volume community/Medicaid ambulatory practice, structured around a near-50/50 inpatient-outpatient split and a small class size (12 categorical, 5 Med-Peds) that fosters close faculty-resident mentorship. The absence of inpatient fellows in the NICU and PICU deliberately pushes procedural and decision-making autonomy onto residents, and the curriculum offers individualized tracks (medical education, advocacy, global health, lifestyle/lactation medicine) alongside a required PGY2 QI/research project rather than mandatory scholarly output.
