This is the largest otolaryngology residency in the country, formed from the merger of two historically independent programs, and it operates as a tertiary/quaternary academic powerhouse spanning Mount Sinai Hospital, the subspecialty-dense New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, the safety-net/high-acuity Elmhurst Hospital, and the regional trauma center Westchester Medical Center. Fellowship-trained faculty across every subspecialty (otology-neurotology, rhinology, facial plastics, head and neck, laryngology, pediatrics, sleep) support a mandatory PGY-3 dedicated research rotation and a globally recognized Head and Neck Cancer dormant tumor cell research program, signaling that scholarly output is structurally embedded rather than optional. Residents rotate through starkly contrasting environments, from high-volume ambulatory subspecialty care at NYEE to underserved, linguistically diverse trauma/oncology populations at Elmhurst, producing broad procedural and cultural exposure alongside exposure to advanced technology (VR/AR, robotics, simulation). The program's culture emphasizes resident-driven initiative and cohesion, as demonstrated by residents self-organizing the first ENT-run COVID ICU, and appears to value collaborative, academically ambitious physicians who can operate across a tertiary academic core and a high-acuity safety-net site simultaneously.
