Program Identity & Fit

This is a five-year, community-based orthopedic surgery program anchored at Doctors Hospital with a strong osteopathic integration mission, supplemented by rotations at higher-acuity partner sites (Grant Medical Center's level 1 trauma center, Nationwide Children's Hospital, OSU Wexner Medical Center) that supply pediatric, trauma, spine, tumor, and sports subspecialty exposure. The clinical base is a close-knit community hospital serving rural and underserved populations in the Columbus area, blended with rotations through nationally ranked academic and pediatric tertiary centers. Research is structured to satisfy AOA requirements rather than positioned as a driver of the program's identity, though residents are encouraged to pursue additional scholarly work supported by the OhioHealth Research and Innovation Institute. The program emphasizes hands-on procedural training (cadaver labs, intern boot camp, simulation) and a blended osteopathic/allopathic curriculum housed in a dedicated Heritage Center, suggesting it values well-rounded, community-oriented surgeons comfortable moving between smaller-hospital autonomy and high-volume academic subspecialty settings.
