Program Identity & Fit

The WashU/B-JH/SLCH Consortium is a university-affiliated, tertiary/quaternary academic OB/GYN program built around Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children's Hospital (Level IV NICU, Fetal Care Center), and a private-practice complement at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, giving residents exposure across high-acuity maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, and community-based benign gynecologic surgery. Research is deeply embedded rather than optional: a mandatory PGY-2 research methodology seminar, required faculty-mentored projects culminating in Rothman Research Day, a 50+ person Division of Clinical Research, dedicated funding mechanisms (L.A.B. Award, Mutch Scholarship), and NIH-funded pathways (K12 WRHR, T32 in female lower urinary tract disorders) signal an institution invested in producing research-literate subspecialists. With 100% of graduates pursuing fellowship, the program is unambiguously oriented toward subspecialization within a nationally-ranked academic department, while still producing some academic generalists and private practitioners. The program values residents who can thrive in a high-volume, high-complexity academic environment while sustaining scholarly output alongside clinical training.
